It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Professor Emeritus Daniel L. Akins, a distinguished physical chemist, longtime member of the CCNY Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and deeply valued member of The City College of New York community. Professor Akins was a founding member of our NSF CREST Center IDEALS.
An accomplished scientist and dedicated mentor, his research focused on the quantum properties of molecular nanostructures and the development of new nanomaterials for applications in molecular photonic devices, chemical sensors, and fuel cells.
Professor Akins leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of scientific achievement, mentorship, service, and commitment to the CCNY community. His contributions to the College and to generations of students and colleagues will be remembered for years to come.
